Peregrine Falcon
One of the endangered species that are currently occupying Acadia National Park. On the contrary, this park in particular has participated in activities that are trying to increase this species' population. For example, Acadia has helped in the goals of the Eastern Peregrine Falcon Reintroduction Program. Their goal is to get the population of the Peregrine Falcon up to 50% of the 360 pairs in the 40's. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, ever since 1999, this particular species has been removed from the endangered list. But how exactly di the Peregrine Falcon get to the point where the were endangered?
Well, believe it or not, this falcon was a normal, but beautiful sight in Acadia. Unfortunately, the cause of their decrease in population was nest robbing, trapping and shooting. In addition to that, these falcons were ingesting toxic chemicals. Even after these chemicals were banned in the United States, they were still being ingested by the Peregrines. This is because birds, like Song birds that migrated from other countries that allows these harmful chemicals contaminated the local falcons. These chemicals caused so much damage to the falcons that they got to the point that they couldn't breed. And if a species can't breed, the population would only decrease.
The Peregrine Falcon hunts using a hunting flight tactic called "stooping" which is where the bird soars the skies examining its prey. Once the bird has a sight of its prey it will dive or stoop to it prey. The Peregrine Falcon can dive as fast as more than 100 miles per hour! Just the force if this dive could cause the prey to get struck to the ground or even kill the prey with the force of their dive alone! They hunt most vigorously during dawn and dusk. While they are hunting they will typically do so while screeching territorial calls. These falcons usually nest in cliffs with a lot of precipitation. These marvelous creatures have yet to make a full recovery.

Bald Eagles
Almost everybody in the United Stated knows that the Bald Eagle is the national emblem of the United States. The Bald Eagle is a symbol of freedom in the United States. The Bald Eagle was endangered for a period of time, but is still endangered in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. Their endangerment was mainlt caused by habitat loss due to coastal development, PCB poisoning, and hunting for the sole purpose of obtaining their valueable feathers. Aside from that this species live in many parks besides this one. For example, these eagles can be found in Glacier Bay National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Olympic National Park, and more.
The Bald Eagle, also known as Haliaeetus leucocephalus is well-known for its character trait of being "bald". People say that this eagle is bald because of the white feathers that cover the eagle's head. The Bald Eagle ican be about 32 to 40 inches long and can have a wing span of 6 to 8 feet. Because of this, this eagle is one of the largest birds. They can reach to a speed of 35 to 44 miles an hour when they take flight. The Bald Eagle's diet contains fish, waterbowl, and small to medium mammals. Their sharp baak and talons help them catc and kill their prey. Even today beacause of the significance and symblism of the this bird, we try to help this eagle's population in growth each and every year.
